LEPTOSPIROSIS - Know what it is and how to prevent it!

What is LEPTOSPIROSIS? It is a feverish, acute infectious illness, of a chronic nature, potentially serious, caused by bacteria, Leptospira, normally transmitted by the rats urine.

Transmission agents The sewer rat is primarily responsible for human infection, not just for the fact of existing in great number but also for the usual proximity with people.

Transmission ways The infection results of the direct or indirect exposure to urine of infected animals, which is verified in contact with mud, contaminated waters or through the ingestion of food badly washed such as those, for example, used in raw salads.

Illness Symptoms

1st. phase:

  • Loss of appetite
  • Apathy
  • Vomits
  • Fever

2nd. phase:

  • Anemia
  • Jaundice
  • Diarreia
  • Polydipsia
  • Polyuria
  • Mouth or tongue ulcers

How to prevent? We must assure some general cares:

  • Still water draining
  • Water disinfection
  • Food washing and specially those that are eaten raw, such as fruit and salads
  • Disinfection and cleaning of susceptible places that could attract rats
  • Rodents extermination
  • Use boots and rubber gloves every time that exists a possibility of contact with susceptible areas of existence of rats

ALL PRECAUTIONS ARE NECESSARY AND NEVER ENOUGH. ASSURE HYGIENE AND CLEANNESS CONDITIONS, DOMESTIC AND AT THE WORKPLACE!
